Garmin Express 'hangs' and will not complete upgrade.
Although Software version of the nuviCam has changed from 2.70 to 3.10, the unit takes forever (well, between 5 - 10 minutes of driving) to acquire satellites.
This is very frustrating especially if you are waiting for directions in a strange city.
More problems arise because directions seem to default to 'no U-turns' and unit tries to send us 'around the block' if we have headed off in the wrong direction while waiting for the GPS fix.
I do not try to use Garmin Express on my 3597LMT because during a so-called 'upgrade' my Topo maps were wiped from the SD card.
Maybe this is 2 or 3 topics here?
I am a 'newbie' with problems.

- As far as the uturn problem goes, are you sure you don't have the ' u turn ' avoidance turned on? I think it is ON by default.
- First - I am using Windows Version 10.0.10240 Build 10240, System Type x64-based PC and have never had a problem using Garmin Express to do updates on a variety of gps units. 5 minutes ago I updated the system firmware on my Nuvi 2699 with no problems.
Second - where/how did you get nuviCam software update v3.10? I am only seeing the following:

nuviCam Camera Firmware software version 2.90 as of March 2, 2016 - It seems USB 3.0 and GE don't work together. Doesn't work on my win 10 or win 7 machines.

My system is also Windows 10 Pro build 10240 x64-based PC.
I connected my nuviCam to the PC after the GPS was very slow at acquiring satellites in the car on Saturday afternoon (Mar 5, 2016). The software version was 2.70 (I noted this when I registered the product with Garmin).
Garmin Express (4.1.17.0) updated maps then software.
When everything should have been updated and complete, the program 'froze'. I used 'Control', 'Alt', 'Delete' to be able to stop the 'task'.
When I powered up the nuviCam independent of the PC, I went into 'Settings', 'Device', 'About' and the software version is now 3.10.
After receiving your reply above I went into the Garmin folder on my PC and it has the same latest software version of 3.10
BTW I tried a different cable in the same USB 3.0 port and now the PC is recognising the nuviCam immediately.

DriveCountry (Australia) - edited March 2016@DriveCountry - Do you have a dezlCam? As I see the current software version is v3.10 as of January 5, 2016. Could you have tried to install the wrong software? As I posted earlier nuviCam is v 2.90. I have looked at the AU site and I see two different links for nuviCam but both seem identical and it seems to be universal, not country specific. But one of the gurus on here may have a different answer on that.

Also you could try using Webupdater to RE-install the firmware v2.90 - http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
On another note to scrubjay - I use my 3.0 USB port all the time with my Garmins and it always works. Just not at 3.0 speeds as I don't believe Garmin supports it yet. I do use an 'official'/OEM Garmin supplied USB cable though.
After a decade of using any USB cable without problems; did try a Garmin tagged USB cable and didn't make a lick of difference. So that says to me something about GE and maybe 64 bit machines. I just use the 2.0 port and don't worry about it...................snip......................

I removed GE 4.1.17.0 again (as suggested by Kylee of Garmin Australasia support) from my PC.
Then I used Kylee's link < http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express-download.html#win >.
This installed GE 4.1.17.0 again resulting in Software Version 3.10
HOWEVER, this time when I powered up the nuviCam independent of the PC and went into 'Settings', 'Device', 'About' the software version is still 3.10 BUT the Dash Cam version is 2.90.
I found the OEM Garmin cable (it was still in the box) and used it in the USB 3.0 port and, voila! .. my PC recognised the nuviCam immediately, Garmin Express started with minimal delay and I received notification that everything was up to date.
After I disconnected, I took the nuviCam outside and powered it up.
The unit acquired satellites in approx 1 minute and was ready to 'navigate'.

Dan of Drive Country Australia - I had this same problem, called Garmin and was up and running in 2 minutes. Forgot what I had to do but was a simple change in the settings on my device.
- Was attempting to use Express to update my maps but trying different USB slots and cables, my Dell Inspiron running Windows 10 simply will not recognize my Nuvi 3590. Mapsource and Basemap don't recognize the Nuvi attached either. All they see are drive letters and don't recognize them as the Nuvi. Even without using a hub, connecting directly to a USB2 port still not recognizing. Windows File manager also only sees drive letters and no Nuvi.
- Sounds like a corrupted GarminDevice.xml file. You'll find it in the Garmin folder. Delete it then power cycle your nuvi and try again.
- I tried but now I can't even get windows to show the garmin folder on the unit. The Nuvi is set to mass storage. In the past I had no problem going in and deleting the junction view file as I always do. Can't even get to it. The SD card shows up but the drive letter for the unit itself says there is nothing in there. But the unit otherwise works fine.
- Do you keep your PC switched on permanently? If so try rebooting it.
- edited May 2016I shut it off every day and for this did it a couple times. Very strange. I will see if my windows7 computer I use for work can see the system files on the unit just to see.
- @crazyfingers - you might get a strong magnifying glass and take a look at the usb pins on your 3590. If one broke or is badly bent you might be out of luck. If it looks corroded you might put a little wd40 on it and a cable end, then plug in and remove the cable a dozen or so times and that may clean any corrosion.
Just for the FYI, I use Win10 and have not had any issues between it and any of my Garmin gps's. Some of which are more than 10 years old. Even the old Garmin Mapsource still works with Win10. All my newer Garmin's connect and show as drives as your 3590 should. Or at least I think... the 3590 appears to be new enough to not need the proprietary garmin drivers.
If it is an issue with win10, then I'd think it'd be a driver conflict with something else that may have recently been loaded. - Thanks. I will do that. I'll check the connectors. If that isn't it, I'll put the problem on hold a bit. I have to go to Japan and Mexico coming up. I'm not going to be doing any driving myself so no need for GPS.
- I tried plugging the Nuvi into my other computer I use for work. Same thing. Last time I did a map update it wanted to move the maps to the SD card for lack of internal space. The SD card appears correctly but the unit itself, while showing up as a drive letter, shows 0 bytes used and zero bytes available and if I double click to open tells me to insert the drive.
A quick look at the USB pins reveals nothing wrong but I need a closer look. - edited May 2016No chance you accidentally formatted the drive? Or accidentally deleted stuff is there? You might right click on the drive, select properties and see what format it says the drive is. It should be FAT. FAT32 would be okay for an SD card, but I'm not sure about the device memory itself. So another will have to add their expert opinion to this. Anything else and there is a problem.
If you are comfortable with the disk management tool in windows then open that and see if it even shows a partition. But only if you know about handling disk partitioning and format schemes. It might get you in more trouble if you just go in and muck about.
I'm thinking you may have to copy some files from your backup back to the device. You do have a backup don't you? Well don't feel bad if you don't. Out of all my Garmin devices, I only have a backup of one of them <>. There are some threads that have a link to a site where you might get them. Or maybe another will re-post that.
Another possibility is to just call Garmin. In the past they've always provided on the phone help to those that call. It doesn't matter if the device is out of warranty or not. The warranty only matters if there is something they physically have to provide. They may even offer you the chance to buy a refurb'd unit at a much reduced price. Though you might find a more recent model with the same features for the same price new. - edited May 2016
I don't think any of this applies, unless there's something major that @crazyfingers hasn't told us. If there was a major problem with internal storage, the Nuvi wouldn't operate correctly. In this case, the only issue seems to be that the computer doesn't recognize it.Malwarebytes anti-malware full download. No chance you accidentally formatted the drive? I would agree that you should just call Garmin at this point. They are going to ask you all the same basic questions about USB cables, etc. But they have the ability to remotely connect to your computer and access the Nuvi while it's connected. So they should be able to find out what is happening - assuming they are willing to take the time for an out of warranty device. - edited May 2016Well my thinking was that if all or certain files on the drive are missing, will Garmin Express (GE) or any other Garmin program allow you do do anything? Or are they only looking at the protected memory that we can't see?? I don't know.
I've never had issues with my Garmins, knock wood, that were not actiually an issue with the chair to keyboard interface <> - edited May 2016Garmin Express, BaseCamp etc will work provided you have a Garmin folder with a GarminDevice.xml file in it. Nothing else is required.
- edited May 2016The curious thing here is that he says Windows Explorer sees an empty volume, however the SD card in the Nuvi slot is correctly identified. Things like GarminDevice.xml have nothing to do with that. If everything functions properly on the Nuvi, this might be a hardware related problem. I see behavior exactly like this with an empty card slot on the Nuvi or my USB card reader.
- edited May 2016Thanks folks. Yes the Nuvi still works fine in the car. Nothing appears to be wrong with it's functionality in use. I just can't get either computer to actually see the internal storage beyond assigning it an empty drive letter so neither Garmin Express, Basecamp or Mapsource are able to see it. And since my computer can correctly see what's on the SD card when the SD card is in the unit, (The maps are on the SD card) I'm guessing that a dirty or damaged USB port is probably not the problem. And before anyone asks, I have tried multiple cables.
I have turned the unit on and off several times. I have not tried a total reset as I don't want to wipe all my data.
Clearly it's not immediately urgent to solve the problem now but clearly I would like to update the maps, backup my waypoints since my last backup at some point relatively soon. I last updated the maps almost a year ago. I typically backup my waypoints a few times a year. I believe I last backed up the waypoints in Mapsource in December. - I believe you said the Nuvi was already set for mass storage mode before. If so, you could try setting it back to MTP mode. If that works, I believe that would give you access to user data like waypoints and tracks at least. Then you could try switching it back to mass storage mode again and see if anything changes.
- Should also add that you can update your maps and use Basecamp to transfer data with the Nuvi in MTP mode. You only need mass storage mode for direct access to the hidden .System folder.

- Well I think that the 3590 is fried. I did put that mass storage setting back to the default MTP mode and the Nuvi showed up in Windows. I launched Garmin Express and it recognized the unit. I started a software and map update and it was almost done and then I got a message that there was an error. Now the unit hardly gets past the 'Don't press buttons while driving' screen and freezes. Sometimes it makes it all the way to the main screen and then freezes. It will not connect to the computer any more. Crap.
I probably need to get a new GPS. - Just to try I put it in the car and when I turn on the car I get the Garmin logo and it stops there.
- edited May 2016I was finally able to get to the EULA section. There are no maps. I was able to toggle the MPT vs Mass Storage (it takes 30 seconds about to respond to any button press). I attached it to the computer and nothing..
Right now it's frozen on the Garmin screen running down the battery. - edited May 2016might need to try a master reset. Some posters seem to have to perform that as a normal function after updates. - edited May 2016Well I made it to the master reset and did it. It wanted me to set a location but given no maps/corrupted maps, I could not. After several failed attempts I finally got the unit to shut down. Then plug into the computer and and power on and finally Garmin Express sees it. Starting the Install all over again. We'll see if it crashes again before it's done.
Edit: After about 5 minutes Garmin Express said that there was an error installing the update. - One more try doing the update. Garmin Express reported an error within the first 5 minutes again.

Do you have a backup? Should be able to restore the rest from that. If you are unable to do that, then it could be some sort of hardware problem. - I think i have a backup from when i first got it. If i can get it going i'll give it to my parents. I'll let people know if it works but i probably don't try until after May 22

I would agree that you should just call Garmin at this point. I probably need to get a new GPS. - Just to try I put it in the car and when I turn on the car I get the Garmin logo and it stops there.
- edited May 2016I was finally able to get to the EULA section. There are no maps. I was able to toggle the MPT vs Mass Storage (it takes 30 seconds about to respond to any button press). I attached it to the computer and nothing..
Right now it's frozen on the Garmin screen running down the battery. - edited May 2016might need to try a master reset. Some posters seem to have to perform that as a normal function after updates. - edited May 2016Well I made it to the master reset and did it. It wanted me to set a location but given no maps/corrupted maps, I could not. After several failed attempts I finally got the unit to shut down. Then plug into the computer and and power on and finally Garmin Express sees it. Starting the Install all over again. We'll see if it crashes again before it's done.
Edit: After about 5 minutes Garmin Express said that there was an error installing the update. - One more try doing the update. Garmin Express reported an error within the first 5 minutes again.

Do you have a backup? Should be able to restore the rest from that. If you are unable to do that, then it could be some sort of hardware problem. - I think i have a backup from when i first got it. If i can get it going i'll give it to my parents. I'll let people know if it works but i probably don't try until after May 22
